After taking a fall in the second half of Syracuse's matchup with Texas Southern, Malachi Richardson left the game with an injury.

Malachi Richardson got tied up with Texas Southern’s Jose Rodriguez while attempting a layup with just under nine minutes left. Both came down and hit the floor hard, but Richardson stayed down on the court after appearing to have landed awkwardly on his side.

Richardson stayed down on the court for less than a minute, got up and attempted a free throw. The freshman guard subbed out with 6:53 left in the second half and didn’t return to Syracuse’s (10-3) 80-67 win over Texas Southern (1-10) on Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome. His status going forward is unknown.

“He was still seeing the trainer,” interim head coach Mike Hopkins said. “He was in with the trainer. Took a hard fall, (he’s a) tough kid.”

Richardson finished with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting in 25 minutes. In his place, freshman guard Frank Howard subbed in for the final seven minutes and played a career-high 19 minutes.
