Despite winning two of its three doubles matches, No. 24 Syracuse (8-2, 2-2 Atlantic Coast) fell to No. 6 Duke (10-1, 3-0), 6-1, on Friday, in Durham, North Carolina.

Syracuse is now 0-3 versus the Blue Devils since joining the ACC in 2013. The Orange was swept in singles play on Friday at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

To open the match, Nicole Mitchell and Maria Tritou fell, 2-6. But Dina Hegab and Anna Shkudun followed with a 6-3 win to even doubles play, 1-1.

With a 7-5 win, Gabriela Knutson and Valeria Salazar gave Syracuse the doubles point and remained undefeated at 5-0.

But the Blue Devils, who entered Friday on a five-match win streak, continued its hot play after doubles. Four of SU’s five losses in singles ended in consecutive sets.

Freshman Tritou was the only SU player to win a set in singles. She dropped her match 6-2, 2-6, 3-6 and fell to 6-3 on the year.

The country’s No. 42 singles player, Shkudun, was dominated by Chalena Scholl, 6-0, 6-1. As Syracuse’s No. 1 singles player, Shkudun has lost two of her last three matches.

Hegab and Knutson also fell 2-6, 3-6 and 6-7, 4-6, respectively. Knutson began the year 7-0 in singles, but has since dropped two straight. Hegab (8-1) is no longer undefeated after the loss.

The Orange travels to Raleigh to play North Carolina State (6-3, 0-2) on Sunday. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
