Vice President Joe Biden will speak at the Syracuse University College of Law commencement ceremony on May 13, the university announced Tuesday.

Biden, a Class of 1968 College of Law alumnus, will deliver the commencement address on May 13 at 1 p.m. in the Carrier Dome, according to an SU News release. Biden also delivered SU’s commencement address in 2009 and received an honorary degree from the university at that ceremony. He delivered the commencement address for the College of Law in 1994, 2002 and 2006.

Biden was last on campus in November 2015 to promote “It’s On Us,” the White House’s campaign against sexual assault. He also attended the men’s Final Four game in Houston, where he spoke to the Syracuse men’s basketball team following its loss to the University of North Carolina.

Biden’s son, Beau, who died in May 2015 following a battle with brain cancer, was a Class of 1994 College of Law alumnus.

“Vice President Biden is a treasured member of the College of Law family and we are excited to bring him back this May,” said College of Law Interim Dean William Banks in the release. “He is always generous with his time, insight and leadership to the College of Law and I am sure he will deliver a poignant speech and provide our graduates and their families and friends with a memorable day.”
