Gabriela Knutson and Valeria Salazar fall to Florida pair in 1st round of NCAA doubles tournament

Gabriela Knutson and Valeria Salazar had their seasons ended by third-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan of Florida.

The 27th-ranked doubles duo of Gabriela Knutson and Valeria Salazar lost in the first round of the NCAA doubles tournament, 2-0, to third-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan of Florida on Thursday. The loss ends the Syracuse pair’s season.

The matchup was a rematch from 16 days earlier when Florida ended Syracuse’s season in the second round of the NCAA tournament. In that match, Austin and Keegan led Knutson and Salazar in an unfinished game 6-0, 6-4 with Knutson and Salazar in the middle of an incomplete comeback.

On Thursday, Knutson and Salazar lost in two sets 6-4, 6-3 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The duo was Syracuse’s most consistent this year and along with singles participant Anna Shkudun were part of an Orange team that for the first time since 1996 sent a singles player and a doubles pair to the individual portion of the NCAA tournament.
