See when and where Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF are holding each of their convocation ceremonies

This weekend Syracuse University and the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry will host convocation ceremonies for each of their schools and colleges for students graduating in the Class of 2016.

All schools and colleges at Syracuse University, in addition to the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, will host convocation ceremonies for the Class of 2016 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A commencement ceremony for all of this year’s SU and SUNY-ESF graduates will be held in the Carrier Dome on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Donald Newhouse, president of Advance Publications, will be the keynote speaker for Sunday’s commencement ceremony.

Below are the locations, times and speakers for each of the individual SU and SUNY-ESF convocation ceremonies.

Martin J. Whitman School of Management



Whitman will hold its graduate convocation ceremony on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center with a reception to follow at 11 a.m. in Whitman’s Flaum Grand Hall. Its undergraduate convocation ceremony will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Dome. A reception following the ceremony will be held at 5:15 p.m. in Whitman. Speakers for Whitman’s convocation will be John Petosa, a Whitman professor of accounting practice; Kanique Swinson, the president of Whitman student government; and Whitman class marshals Justin Hilgart and Dyland Weinberger, according to an SU News release.

S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications

Newhouse will hold its convocation on Saturday at noon in the Dome. Broadway producer Stacey Mindich will deliver the ceremony’s address, according to the release. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held at 2 p.m. in a tent on the Quad.

School of Education

The School of Education will hold its convocation ceremony on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Manley Field House. David Essel, a motivational speaker and author, will be the speaker, according to the release. A reception following the ceremony will take place at 2:15 p.m. in a tent at Manley.

College of Arts and Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences will hold its undergraduate ceremony on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Dome and its graduate ceremony at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Crouse College’s Setnor Auditorium. Kevin Bell, president and CEO of Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoological Society, will speak, per the release. Following the ceremony, undergraduate receptions will be held at 11:30 a.m. in various locations on the SU campus for all of the college’s different departments and a graduate reception will be held at 3 p.m. in Strasser Commons, on the second floor of Eggers Hall.

School of Information Studies

The iSchool will hold its undergraduate ceremony on Saturday at noon in Goldstein Auditorium in Schine and its graduate ceremony on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the same place. Ken Bouyer, director of inclusiveness recruiting at Ernst and Young, will be the speaker, according to the release. After the ceremony, an undergraduate reception will take place at 1 p.m. in Hinds Hall. A graduate reception will take place at 4 p.m. in Panasci Lounge in Schine.

College of Engineering and Computer Science

The College of Engineering and Computer Science will hold its convocation ceremony on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in Manley Field House. Edward Cettina, a Class of 1987 SU alumnus and chief operating officer of the Americas for AECOM’s building construction business, will be the speaker, according to the release. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held at 11:30 a.m. in a tent at Manley.

School of Architecture

The convocation ceremony for the School of Architecture will take place in Hendricks Chapel at 9 a.m on Saturday. Annabelle Selldorf, founder of architectural design practice Selldorf Architects, will be the convocation speaker, according to the release. A reception following the ceremony will be held in the Slocum Hall Atrium at 10:30 a.m.

David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics

Falk College’s convocation ceremony will be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Manley. Floyd Little, a former Syracuse football player and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will speak at the convocation, according to the release. A reception will be held afterwards at 6:15 p.m. in a tent at Manley.

College of Visual and Performing Arts

VPA’s convocation for undergraduates and graduates will take place in the Dome on Saturday at 7 p.m. Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of user interface design, will be the ceremony’s speaker, per the release. Following the convocation, there will be a reception at a tent on the Quad at 8:30 p.m.

Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs

Maxwell will host its ceremony for master’s and doctoral degree candidates at 2 p.m. in Crouse College’s Setnor Auditorium on Friday. The convocation speaker will be Catherine Bertini, a professor in the public administration and international affairs programs at Maxwell and a distinguished fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, according to the release. The student speaker will be Mirjakhon Turdiev, who focused on inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities in his executive M.P.A. program. After the ceremony a reception will be held in the first floor Maxwell Hall Foyer at 3:30 p.m.

College of Law

United States Vice President Joe Biden will speak at the College of Law’s commencement ceremony on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Dome. A reception will be held after the ceremony in the Levy Atrium in Dineen Hall at 3 p.m.

State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry

The commencement ceremony for SUNY-ESF will take place in Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena and Events Center Saturday at 3 p.m. Curriculum-specific receptions will be held prior to the convocation at noon in various locations around campus, according to the SU Commencement booklet.

University College

University College will hold its ceremony at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Hendricks Chapel. Sean Kirst, a former columnist for Syracuse.com, will deliver the keynote address.

The Renée Crown Honors Program

The Renée Crown Honors Program will hold its convocation ceremony at 3 p.m. on Friday in Hendricks Chapel.
